blog # 6 “I realize that I’m gambling

                                   Name:  Carlos Mendez

The article “I realize that I’m gambling, “from The New York Times, Steve Huber states that medical health insurance can be under the affordable for most of the residents of The Unite States. Not only because a health insurance is no one of the priority for most families in the US, in addition, they have a tight budget and a lot expenses, but also the program is confusing for them and  people are not well informed about it. For these reasons I strongly agree with Mr. Huber that the new Obama’s law about medical insurance shouldn’t be mandatory for us and they shouldn’t punish uninsured people with monetary penalties for many reasons.

First of all, medical insurance is not a priority for people with low income and others, in my opinion a health insurance must be optional for everybody, because, sometimes we find ourselves in a bad economic situation such as unemployed or we don’t have enough for the rent, to be honest an insurance always was the last thing that I ever thought about it, in those situations because I have been through that before. For instance the example from the article, Heidi Reinberg, 53 years old, freelance documentary producer ,who lives in Brooklyn, said she had gone uninsured for most of her adult life and had managed just fine.

Another reason is that the new mandatory law about (health insurance) hasn’t been well informed to all the residents of The United States. People are confused and they rather to pay the penalty which it is $95. For instance, Ms. Reinberg, as well added up that she exercised, ate healthily and rarely got sick. She would rather pay down her credit cards than take on another bill for something that she doesn’t know that she is going to need. Even though she acknowledges that she could have major medical expenses as she ages. And she might buy insurance in the future if her income stabilizes, she said. But for now, like many others, she has decided that the financial penalty for not buying insurance is more affordable than the cost of premiums and deductibles. She knows what the penalty is going to be and she said that she could get her head around that amount.

One of the most shocking reasons is that people make decisions for us and the system is a mess. For instance the fact that after March 31, 2014, all residents of The Unites States must be heals care coverage. Governments come into our life and make these decisions for us without even asking us, in my opinion this event just makes me want to rebel to them. This has a negative impact on society, the system is a mess. Penalties are too low; people with coverage got thrown out of their plans, small Businesses are getting clobbered by premium increases and “fees" to support the ACA, confusion all around. What kind of hubris does our president have that to force something this big on the rest of us without letting the states sort it out first.

In conclusion, the new law has a lot of failures, governments should solve them all, because our country is not in a good economic position right now and residents are unable to face another expense that is not very justified, basically it’s not a priority ,because, people don’t get sick every day.  In addition many people are confused with the program; they should more advertising it, showing our society the benefits and loss about it. In my opinion is going to be harder for me because I have to think about another debt that is going to come out of my pockets , I don’t see any benefits on it however we must  follow the law ,and sure it is like gambling because we don’t know when we going to be sick.

blog # 5 the truman show

A celebrity is a person, who has an influence in day-to-day media, and is easily recognized by the general public. In general to be a celebrity can be a very exciting in life but the only part to lose for the celebrities  is their privacy. Of course celebrities might get a lot more privileges and a great income than an ordinary person but at least whoever who is not involve in camera or media, they can enjoy their life free smoothly, in my opinion to live a life such as Mr Truman life from "The Truman Show" can be very nice at the beginning but at the end , it will become boring and repetitive so for many reasons im strongly disagree with mr cristopher world

Blog 4: Socrates' message in "The Allegory of the Cave"

In Plato’s “The Allegory of the Cave” Socrates tells a story to his student Glucon to explain that we live a closed life, always on the same level of knowledge, never being able to increase that knowledge. The illusions are created by our culture/society (by those who benefit from keeping us ignorant and we believe these illusions to be “real.”   When we are given knowledge we become free of these illusions but, gaining knowledge is a slow painful process.  Gradually we become wise when we try to explain what we have learned what is “real” (true and right) to others, we fail because they deny or cannot understand the truth. They conclude that the knowledgeable person is ridiculous, stupid or crazy- and dangerous.  Seeking truth is a journey from the cave to the light, and those who love wisdom will

Blog 2: Revision of "Hype."

Advertisement is basically a clever marketing strategy in which a product is advertised, to the point where people begin to feel they need to consume it. The passage “Hype” shows how advertisements influence directly or indirectly in the people who are the consumers. Living in this industrialized country such as The United States is very disturbing and chaotic. Because, there are a bunch of commercials pollution floating everywhere, hence, as another consumer. I completely disagree with “Hype’ because instead in thinking that advertisements are mental pollution for our minds ,I think that advertisements are very helpful and convenience for all residents of this industrialized country.  Because of adds and commercials people get to know new stuffs and new services from companies, not only that those new products  make people’s life easier. Also advertisements create a lot income for companies and that make more jobs for people.

The United States is consider like the most consumeristic nation in the world, in addition, this country have many industries or companies that they want to let people know about their new products or services that they provide or offer. In my opinion advertisements have a good side for people because when companies advertised their product, those new products simplify people’s life. For instance my family didn’t know about “The Magic Bullet “it is a tiny blender machine that blends anything such as fruits, vegetable, seeds, ice in seconds. We found out about this because we saw a TV commercial and it is currently one of the most valuable items at home.

In spite of costing a lot of money for companies, advertisements bring a great income in retribution to them such as the commercials advertised during the super bowl, this is a transition to create more opening jobs positions. because if a company have more demand for more products , it will be in the obligation to hire more people to work for it. For instance, 12 years ago,in 2002 “Fresh Direct” was a very small company that it only started with 300 employees. Since, they started putting out more advertisements on line and also being part of the super bowl commercials. This company has growth since then.  This event made them hire more and more people above of three thousand employees, that occurrence made them hire me when I was unemployed in 2008.

In conclusion, There will always be somebody who don’t approve massive commercials such as the opinion given from “Hype” but advertisements have a lot positives effects when it comes to business and current job stability. I’m not saying that because of some commercials people can easily get hired for a company, but those advertisements make companies succeed in this competitive world. Because, advertisements get people to know about the new services and products that a new company offers. In my opinion for all these reasons explained above, advertisements are necessary for us, they are part of our life and they will be everywhere, on the other hand, we always are able to turn off the computer or TV, if we don’t want to see commercials. Or we can ignore them or turn around our heads if we have a poster or advertisement in front of us.

blog # 3 sumary of I KNOW THE TRUTH

The article I know the truth, so don’t bother me with facts, wrote by Jeffrey kluger, in October 29, 2010 is showing how some of the people that believe at least in one of the rumors about the proposed Islamic cultural center in downtown Manhattan (ground zero) cling to their trust that no even facts influence at all with their biases, in contrary, they have an opposite effect which it is that they stick with their conclusions even more strongly.

The article shows as well a new study conducted by Garret and Nesbit that have failed with the purpose to change those people biases and opinions showing them facts, in addition, they are performing a new deeper study of the brain of those people and see how the brain ,emotions  are involved with their opinion in most of the cases.
