In Fast Food Nation, Schlosser "states that in the mid 1980's Latin American citizens, even citizens from Southeast Asia traveled to Colorado for jobs such as a meatpacking job.  Once a middle class job, now a minimal wage job, offered plenty opportunity for about five thousands employees. According to the reading, the average worker quit or was fired every three months.
As a former employee, terrible work conditions can be a factor of quitting earlier. Also, as immigrants, speaking English was hard to over come for citizens that traveled from their own country. Now, the wages is 9.25, but in the 1980's the wages is way less than that. Immigrants had a hard time to live. They lived in old motel rooms when beds on the floors. Immigrants needed a labor that can help them out work things out. My grandparents were going through the same struggle in the 1980's as my grandma and grandfather both worked hard to put clothes, food, and shelter for my mom, aunts, and uncles.
In the article, meatpacking workers in Iowa and Nebraska both  have numerous of immigrants. There has been so many people traveling to the u.s.  to look for better living and work that there has been shelters being made for those who have no homes. Those that have no home are usually immigrants. From my point of view, I believe immigrants should have the opportunity to stay in the united states to work hard and survive.

In Book 3: Fat Land, the book speaks about a random man named David Wallerstein. He ran theatres in the Midwest with numerous of movies. He was wondering how to up the sales of popcorn.  He tried various of merchandise techniques that did not work. He thought about doubling the size of the boxes that carry the popcorn. The author of Fat Land, Greg, said "one night the answer came to him: jumbo-sized boxes."After all, it became successful. Mr. Wallerstein retired from the movie business and was a board of director for a fast-food restaurant. McDonalds had a similar problem as the one in his movies business career. He simply said to supersize the serving which became successful as well.
As a reader, I disagree from a customer point of view because it is every unhealthy. Yes, this help the business aspect when supersizing the bags but its very unhealthy. David Wallerstein, when working for Mcdonald's board of directors, double the size of the bag that holds French fries. That can make more calories for your body. Like David said, "they don't want to eat two bags- they don't want to look like a glutton.'' That quote convinced ray kroc, the company founder, to sell supersized bags.
From personal experience, I have watch plenty documentaries about people trying mcdonalds daily, and getting sick or getting fatter. I say make smarter choices.

blog 11 happy meals

In the passage “Happy Meals,” Michael Pollan gave massive amount of advice that can help your healthy ways. One friendly advice that Pollan stated was that do not eat any food that your grandparents or great-grandparents wouldn’t recognize at all. Another advice that my family can do is get more fresh food than processed. My family love organic food so that we can eat healthy. Also, my mom love to make meals with salad with tomatoes at times. I know that my mom love to cook a lot. Instead of buying a fast food meal, my mom cooks me something simple.

There was some advice Pollan mention that I know my family will not follow. One of the advices Pollan said that my family probably would have a hard time to follow is to avoid any ingredients that either are unfamiliar or straight up harmful. My mom know what she wants when she gets it but sometimes there can be ingredients that are harmful. My mom doesn’t go for food products that make health claims. Food companies now cannot be trusted because you never know what they inject in it to make the product healthy.

One thing my family cannot do right now is to get out the supermarket because they always go to the nearest one. Also, my family would pay whatever amount to feed their kids. My parents, aunts and uncle always buy more than 100 dollars of food. I understand it is hard to buy food since prices goes up but you have to do it.

According to a myth, public water systems are inefficient and wasteful. Senators of the Unite States spend billions of dollars to make the public project work so citizens can have clean water to drink in parks, hospitals, schools, and much more. When these water projects receive complaints, the projects are being improved instead of removed. As a consumer, I’ll be nervous if the water fountain can exclude dirty water at any given time.

In my life, I have plenty experience with the water throwing little to no water. At times, water fountains would throw nothing at all. The city is the reason to fix these types of problems. Making a water system for citizens can cause part time jobs. Other than creating job opportunity, the downside of it is that to maintain the water system, you need to spend lots of money on the repairs. On average, the water system break down can be once or twice a month. When the city has to pay for the taxes, I believe as citizens, we going to pay that of through taxes.

To be honest, we need these water systems. These water systems can save lots of lives in any given situation. Public water systems should always run and never break down. Because of my experience, I rather go to the nearest public park water fountain than to buy a two dollar water bottle downtown. As a New York citizen, there is water fountain anywhere near public parks or even in libraries or hospitals.

Blog 9 Part 2

Animal welfare is something we should look after. Animal welfare is the well-being of animals. Animals should be treated equally until slaughter time. Now a days, animals are being mistreated in plenty parts of the country. Farm animals such as pigs, chickens, and cows are being isolated and jammed together in a factory. Personally, I believe this is a problem because no fresh oxygen is being provided toward these poor animals. Even though no fresh oxygen is accessible, these animals experience lack of food.

According to the sustainable table, the website for the film “The Meatrix” shows how animals are being mistreated. As a consumer that love to eat meat, I barley watch educational films that show how meat are being made. Animals are being more and more isolated from their natural land. In a research, animals were referred as units of production than living creatures. Animals would not have the comfort to turn around or to bend down to eat because they are all bunched up.

These farm factories are being very greedy with the productions from the animals. The owners of the industrial farms worry about their own production than the consumers that are eating the product. We can end up being sick because of the animal cruelty. Health problems play a role for these animals to die quick because they are being fed with unnatural diet. Animal cruelty plays a part when chickens go through a practice called “de-beaking”. Also, cow’s tails are cut of long with pigs to increase safety and more. Because of these painful performances, this causes stress, and discomfort.

Blog 9 Part 1

In the Meatrix, the well written animated film show and also expresses the fact that since 1950's, the traditional family farm system has changed into a farm factory. Since factory farming, farm animals such as pigs, cows, and chickens has been treated differently. Animals are being packed into small spaces in the factory with no room to move. The fact that the animals are being put together in a small room means extremely bad odor and also animals are dying upon each other. Antibiotics are being heavily used to avoid any type of disease from these farm animals. Baby Cows are being fed with old cow blood which is nasty and harmful. Also in the factories, workers are being treated every poorly. Meat are being quickly rushed to make instead made with care.

The overuse of antibiotics can transfer on the food we eat today.  Pigs are the main animals that receive the pills so that they can receive no germs or disease. Cows are being put together along with their waste. Cows are suffering mad cow disease which can harm the consumer which are us. Artificial hormones are being used on these poor animals as well.

As it was mention earlier, dangerous working conditions are in the farm factories. Workers are working in such a fast pace in the factory that while butchering, workers tend to cut their own finger off in an attempt to keep up with the pace of flowing meat that are being moved. Besides the fact that workers are being mistreated, there is also manure in the meat when processed which is dangerous. As a consumer, you should know what your eating and the meatrix show what your eating.

Hype

In the article "Hype" by Kalle Lasn, explains that advertisements are affecting us as a  whole in every way. According to Kalle, advertisement feels like mental pollutants towards the brain because they are entirely taking the control of our minds. If you go outside, you may see an ad right by a bus stop. That’s one way to show you that ads are everywhere. Kalle stresses the fact that ads can is taking over the world or already did.

What Kalle said is agreeable. It’s obvious; ads are really all on top of us. I believe the ads are all on top of us mentally, physically, and emotionally. Ads are on us mentally simply because it’s taking over our eyes. Everywhere we go, the ads are there. Ads are all over the metropolitan transportation stations. Not only the ads are taking over our mind, but we tend to try to keep up with the latest technology that was presented through the ads you see throughout the day.

Ads are on top of us physically because we go out our ways to get that six hundred dollar phone or that thirty thousand dollar car. We tend to work ourselves even harder to get that material which is insane. We want to get overtime to get that extra money or save more than you usually do to get what you want. Last, ads are all on top of us emotionally in many ways. Ads have us emotionally because materialistic items make us happy.

When we do not get that item we couldn’t get then we become upset. For example, those new Jordan’s you love are limited and are in very few stores. You tend to waste your time and wait on the line for the Jordan’s which also involve your physicality. When it’s finally your turn to get your Jordan sneakers that you waited so long for on line, and the workers in the store tells you that they are sold out, you would want to go insane which is sad.

Let’s face it; you can’t run away from ads. Ads make the world go round along with money and women which is irreverent to the article but it does make the world go round. Ads simply want to tell you to keep up with the world.

In Plato’s “The Allegory of the Cave,” Socrates tells a story to his student Glaucon to explain that we live in an unexamined life. In other words, we are not enlightenment; we live a closed life, unwilling to increase our level of knowledge. The illusion is created by our culture, by society and believes they are real. When we are given knowledge, we become freer from thee illusions but gaining knowledge is a slow and painful process. We become wise and when tried to return to the cave, to explain what its reality to others in the caves, we failed to explain because they cannot understand the truth. Therefore, the one who explains are the following: Crazy, Ignorant, and dangerous. It is a journey from the cave to the light from the sun. I agree with Plato when it comes to making someone understand something they haven’t seen.
For example, when you try to explain your college experience to your friends that never been to college, they will probably think your stupid because you are not like them. My friends that never been to college either think it’s a waste of time to go to college because they never wasted a minute in a college course or I am stupid enough to actually attend classes. For my point of view, I believe the crazy and the ignorant are my friends that never been to college because they never gave it a try. Jealousy can play its part because they never experience what I did which is sad. But, I always encourage my friends to start or finish college. I also agree knowledge is every powerful, well its power period. I also understand the fact that knowledge is a slow and painful process.
Knowledge is a slow process because it takes time to understand. For example, if you want to find out how to sail a boat, you need to understand plenty things such as the weather your boat about to sail in, how to maneuver the boat along with the weather, and also how to park a boat once finish sailing. Sailing a boat is a long process just like knowledge. Knowledge is a painful process because you need to make sacrifices for the knowledge you gained.
It doesn’t take a wise man to make a man wise, it takes the man himself to become wise if choose too. The experience the wise man once went through, the other may not. We all have different ways of living and learning, but if you choose to be ignorant and selfish, usually you going to be the same guy you were before. I believe it’s all mental.

Blog 3

In the article "I know the Truth, So Don't Bother Me with Facts", Jeffrey Kluger explains that humans have a habit of believing in what’s true [falsehoods] without facts. Kluger not only stresses the fact that people can easily believe in something without evidence but how difficult it is to change someone's false belief with facts to back up your statement. A new study taken place at Ohio State University by two assistant professors of communications indicates that beliefs can be easy to manipulate with false images and unnecessary quotes. Another result from the study shows that a selective group that was recruited for the study was willing to change their belief because of the evidence that were shown to them [on the contrary: they were unwilling] . Based on the article, people are very stubborn when it comes to learning the facts after knowing that their wrong simply because we do not like to be wrong. [you need a strong thesis here]
When a conversation about beliefs is being brought up, I tend to stand up for what I believe in no matter what. I agree with Jeffrey because stubborn people, including me, can be defensive when speaking about truth because what you think is true, can be false. To be honest, beliefs can be true or false if proven with facts to support the reason why it’s false. Even the beliefs I believe in can be false such as believing your friends would never betray you for an example. As humans, we make mistake. Also, we can be easily influenced to something that is not true. [general; you need details]

It is true that people turn ignorant when the truth is presented to them which go against their beliefs. Usually they take the truth as a consideration and still believe in what’s wrong which is sad. People do not like to be corrected or wrong which is understandable, if someone reach for you to tell the truth with facts, why continue to be ignorant?

After comparing answers from the evaluation that was given, I need to be more aware of how to be more clear and direct with what the reader and the instructor want. I am also shocked about few of he response to be a pass which means i really need to work on my reading comprehension skills. The second respond to hype caught me off guard thinking it was badly written because it was short. But, Essays can be every short and simply with chance to pass.
